TIPC will contribute to the following workshop in Milan, organised by JRC-European Commission and the Green Economy Observatory (GREEN Bocconi University), in partnership with Dark Matter Labs. This will be an opportunity to share success stories and learnings about innovation for sustainability transitions from TIPC members in Africa, Europe and Latin America.
As Europe advances toward a sustainable future, the European Green Deal serves as a pivotal policy framework, driving a green transition across key socio-economic sectors. Innovations in areas such as energy, mobility, food, waste and water hold immense potential to accelerate this transition while enhancing the EU’s global competitiveness. However, the scaling and adoption of these innovations often face complex challenges, including regulatory, financial, and structural barriers.
To address these obstacles while fostering transformative change, it is essential to understand the enablers that can unlock the full potential of green innovations, ensuring their development and large-scale implementation in support of Europe’s sustainability and competitiveness goals.
Workshop objectives:
- Identify innovation success stories and accelerators: pinpoint areas and projects where innovations can drive the green transition, showcasing best practices as examples for achieving Green Deal and the new Clean Industrial Deal goals.
- Identify innovation barriers and enablers: explore key challenges – structural, regulatory, policy, and financial – that hinder innovation and require alignment with Green Deal objectives; delve into the enabling conditions to foster sustainable and resilient innovation across sectors.
- Develop policy recommendations to promote innovation: highlight policies and instruments at the EU, national and regional/local levels, that can support green innovation.
