About this event
Addressing the social and environmental challenges of our time means confronting the type of future we want to build. The future is not predetermined – it can be shaped. But shaping it demands that we learn to think, imagine, and act differently.
How do we create pathways towards alternative futures, while navigating the consequences of interventions, unexpected shocks and long-term global trends?
This is the motivation behind Seeds of the Future, a game designed to help policy makers, investors, researchers and systems thinkers engage experientially with the complexities of transitions. It invites us to step outside the usual confines of our roles and into a world where radical shifts toward sustainable futures become imaginable and actionable.
Join us in January for an Open Learning Series session – facilitated by the Deep Transitions Lab and the Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium – in which we’ll introduce the game, hear from those who have played it and offer a hands-on taster for participants.
Playing the game supports deeper immersion in the systems we seek to change, surfacing frictions and uncertainties, as well as creativity and possibility. We’ll rethink our approaches to planning in the face of uncertainty and collectively explore the challenges, complexities and trade-offs involved in building resilient sustainability pathways.
Session details
· In Part I (first hour), we’ll introduce the core theoretical concepts driving the development of the game and how they can support your work, as well as inviting reflections from policy practitioners and impact investors who have played it.
· In Part II (last 45 minutes), we’ll step into an interactive exercise to unpack one component of the game in action. If you stay for this segment, please be ready to participate actively — your imagination is part of the process!
