In this new publication, “Towards Responsible Innovation Ecosystems through Social Labs: Lessons from the Field,” authors Raúl Tabarés Gutiérrez and Alejandra Boni explore how innovation ecosystems can better anticipate and respond to societal challenges.

The paper examines the role of social labs as spaces for experimentation and collaboration, highlighting their potential to support more responsible and inclusive innovation processes. It argues for a stronger focus on anticipating the social implications of emerging technologies and shaping innovation systems that are aligned with societal values.

Drawing on lessons from practice, the authors show how social labs can contribute to transforming innovation ecosystems—supporting new forms of governance, learning and collective action in the context of sustainability transitions.
