A report by TIPC researchers (Oscar Yandy Romero Goyeneche, Felber J. Arroyave Bermúdez, Jorge Robledo Velásquez and Matías Ramírez) has recently been published, outlining the results of a study on the twin transitions progress in Medellín in Colombia. It suggests routes for relevant institutions in the region (public policy, business unions and associations, investors, Higher Education institutions, and civil society) to contribute to their maturation and enhance their transformative power in the city.
The “twin transitions”, which combine technologies associated with the green transition with digital transformation technologies, represent the focus of efforts to reduce harmful CO2 emissions and protect biodiversity. The convergence of these technologies is capable of “scaling” efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
The team behind the study applied a novel methodology to identify technological clusters with the potential to contribute to the integration or formation of socio-technical niches of twin transitions in the city of Medellin. To this end, they identified clusters in which Medellín has accumulated research, invention and production capacities, which create conditions conducive to transformative innovation.
