At the heart of Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) is a simple but powerful idea: real-world experimentation. This involves testing and learning from new interventions for tackling society’s most pressing challenges, from climate resilience to health equity to sustainable food systems.
Experiments are action-oriented projects that apply the TIP methodology to create demonstrations and stretch the impact of policies, funding programmes and projects for transformative system change. The aim is to create deep shifts in the way systems – such as those for energy, health, or food – provide for our basic needs.
Grounded in the realities of the context, experiments involve local partners, such as government authorities, funding agencies, system users, NGOs or civil society organisations. Participants rethink the status quo, try out alternatives and learn what works in practice. The process generates evidence and learning about how change happens in complex systems, supporting adaptation and replication across sectors and geographies.
