Blanche is an energy and sustainable development sector professional with close to 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector, having guided energy sector policies and strategies, developed projects and led the implementation of technical assistance projects in developing countries. Currently, she’s an Energy and Climate Advisor, at the United Nations Environment Programme, Copenhagen Climate Centre (CCC). She completed her PhD at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex, the U.K. with a case study on South Africa’s energy transitions (analysing the role of mining and energy, renewable energy, and gas). Her working experiences include the private sector (Sasol), national government (Department of Science and Technology), multilateral organisations (UN), research councils (CSIR, ARC) and academia. She holds two Masters degrees, in Climate Change and Development from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), the U.K. as a Mandela-Sussex Scholar, and Bioprocess engineering at the University of Cape Town (UCT). She is a widely published author of journal articles, book chapters, technical reports, and research and policy briefs. Blanche holds two Masters degrees: Climate Change and Development from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), UK, as a Mandela-Sussex Scholar and a Masters in Bioprocess Engineering at UCT, South Africa.
